Embarking on my final major project, I relished the opportunity to focus on a single, cohesive endeavor over an extended period. This allowed me to delve deeply into my research and creative process, a refreshing change from the rushed projects of my foundation year. My project, inspired by my mother's life at my age, and the themes of Peter Pan, led me to explore notions of adulthood and personal growth.

I began by crafting a playful headpiece inspired by Tinker Bell, utilizing aluminum and experimenting with various metalworking techniques. This hands-on approach underscored my commitment to developing new skills. However, feedback from my tutor highlighted that my initial design process was too broad. Taking this advice to heart, I shifted my focus to refining shapes around the body, drawing inspiration from wedding gowns and scaffoldings to symbolize ongoing personal construction.

Managing my ADHD presented challenges, particularly in adhering to a structured plan. Despite my efforts to schedule my work, I struggled with motivation and staying on track. Nevertheless, I persevered by setting aside my initial design to gain fresh perspective and re-engaging with my project with renewed focus.

I incorporated traditional Polish laces and bendable wood to create intricate, corset-inspired hoops and a cage-like structure, connecting these elements to convey interdependence. My experimentation with finishes, layering multiple coats of white paint and glue, demonstrated my commitment to achieving the desired aesthetic despite technical challenges.

This project has been a profound learning experience, emphasizing the importance of adaptability, self-reflection, and resilience. I have taken active responsibility for my learning and development, continuously making informed decisions to refine my work. The journey has deepened my understanding of integrating personal experiences into my art, preparing me to pursue future projects with confidence and creativity.
